5. The coating method of fusible interlining

Coating is the key link of the forming of fusible interlining. Its major aim is to reach the prescriptive coating quantity. Method : use dry method or wet method to make thermosol take on regular spot irregular sprinkled powder, computer spot. Then spread them evenly on base cloth and choose appropriate curing temperature and make them fix to the base cloth. The common coating methods are: thermo-fusing transfer coating, powder sprinkling method, powder-point coating, paste-point coating, and double point coating.

1)、Powder sprinkling coating

Powder sprinkling is the simplest coating method. It is to evenly sprinkle the thermosol whose degree of grain is between 40-60m on the base cloth surface by bunker, powder-giving roller and vibrating screen. Then do the baking, cooling and crystallization. During the powder sprinkling, the base cloth doesn't need heating in high temperature and thus avoid the damage from it. Therefore, powder-sprinkling coating is applicable for many kinds of base cloth and is the commonly used coating method of cheap linings.

2)、powder-point coating

The technical requirement of powder-point coating is quite high. The instant contact of heating roller and engraving roller pits makes the thermosol in the pits take on half-melting state. Then the thermosol is completely and regularly transferred on the base cloth. And following work is baking, cooling and crystallization. Powder-point engraving roller pits can be classified into regular spot and computer spot and have different mesh size and coating quantity. Powder-point coating is applicable for woven base cloth and can make them have even powder-point arrangement, good permeability and soft hand feel. This method is mostly used on medium or high-grade linings. You can see the mesh size of fusible interlining and the applicable range of powder-point coating in graph-3.

  Note: Irregular sprinkled powder confirms its use according to the coating quantity. Computer spot confirms its use referring to the mesh size of regular point shape.

  3)、Paste-point coating

Paste-point coating is a kind of wet method coating. It is applicable for various base cloth. Its related equipments are made of rotary screen (inside it installed doctor blade and paste-giving tube), outer doctor blade, prop roller, etc. Paste-point coating must use fine thermosol powders which are smaller than 200 mesh. Then mix the powders in some proportion with other aids water into slurry. Then transport the slurry into the rotary screen by pressure pump. The knife edge of the doctor blade inside the rotary screen makes a tangency with the inner round of the rotary screen. And when the machine is running, the slurry is transported into the rotary screen by the pressure pump. Then the slurry is pressed through the net holes and forms paste-point on base cloth and is delivered by guiding roller into dyer to be dried, baked and fixed. Paste-point rotary screen can be classified into regular spot and computer spot. You can refer to graph-3 to know the applying way of past-point fusible interlining of different mesh numbers and spots
Because the powder-sprinkling is applicable for many kinds of base cloth and the power points arrange evenly, paste-point coating can produce light-weight, high-elasticity and high grade fusible interlining and has wide applicable range.

 
4)、Double-point coating

 
Double-point coating is to use two kinds of thermosol of different character to do paste-point coating and powder-sprinkling coating. Then do the baking, melting, cooling and shaping. Its character is that the properties of the two different kinds of thermosol are complementary. For example, PA, HDPE double-point fusible interlining has not only dry-cleanability but also good washability. Because the melting points and melt indexes of the two kinds of thermosol are different, the technical condition of pressing and adhesion is very rigorous. Bad temperature setting tends to cause unstable adhesion or thermal degradation. Imprecise pressure setting tends to cause unstable adhesion or strike-through.
